We’re looking for a seasoned professional who’s been at the helm of electricity network control centre operations for many years.

This isn’t a hands-on, day-to-day control room role — it’s one step above. You will lead through others, managing the leader responsible for day-to-day operations. Your focus will be on positioning our control room to adapt to the modern future facing state that keeps pace with how our network is evolving and meeting our customers changing needs.

 Driving continuous improvement of systems and processes, overseeing system security, managing escalations, and ensuring the control room operates safely, efficiently, and effectively. You’ll lead contingency planning, drive network reliability and safety, and make sure the right systems, people, and processes are in place.  With a focus on an upgraded SCADA system being transitioned into the business, you’ll get to work on some exciting technology projects too, along the way.

Job Description

The Role will see you:

  • Lead the Network Operations function including managing operational processes and procedures and providing oversight of Control Room operations.
  • Help set the strategy for managing network operations as the electricity network grows and evolves to meet changing customer requirements.
  • Manage the Control Room function, including providing direct leadership of the Control Room Supervisor and Scheduler/Outage Planner, with indirect oversight of Control Room Operators.
  • Take responsibility for high-level network operations, including outage management strategy, emergency escalation, and system reliability.
  • Own the performance and development of control room operations as you ensure safe access to the Electra network for field staff, contractors and third parties, that operating protocols are adhered to, and deliver all compliance reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement across technology and processes, identifying smarter ways to operate through technology, training, and process evolution.
  • Keep the business and your stakeholders fully informed, as you deliver clear operational insights and reports.

  • Demonstrated leadership in electricity network operations, particularly in managing or directing control room functions.
  • A strategic mindset with deep knowledge of system reliability, outage planning, and operational risk.
  • Strong people leadership, you can show your ability to get the best out of leaders and technical teams.
  • Confidence under pressure, you know what it takes to lead during major events, emergencies, and complex, time-sensitive challenges.
