Job Description

This is an opportunity to develop a skilled trade career in electricity distribution, working on overhead networks that keep communities connected.

As a Line Mechanic Trainee, training covers the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution infrastructure while working alongside experienced field crews.

What is involved

A structured training pathway of approximately 2 years is completed, including:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution) Level 4
  • On-the-job training with experienced teams
  • Block course training as required (4 times)

This is physical outdoor work involving manual handling, working at heights, and exposure to varying weather conditions.

Desired Skills and Experience

What is required

Experience is not required. The right attitude is essential.

  • A genuine interest in becoming a qualified tradesperson with a focus on a long-term career within the Electricity Distribution Industry
  • Reliable, honest, and team-focused approach
  • Great communication skills
  • Passion, Motivation and willingness to learn
  • A high level of physical fitness and enjoyment of outdoor work
  • Comfort working at heights (support provided)
  • NCEA Level 2 or equivalent experience
  • Full, clean Class 1 driver’s licence
