Job Description

This is an opportunity to develop a skilled trade career in electricity distribution, working on underground electricity networks.

As a Cable Jointer Trainee, training focuses on the installation, joining, repair, and maintenance of underground cables, installation and maintenance of HV switchgear and ground-mounted transformers that ensures a reliable electricity supply.  

What is involved

A structured training pathway of approximately 3 years is completed, including:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply Level 2
  • Cable Jointer High Voltage Level 4
  • On-the-job training with experienced teams
  • Block course training as required (4 times)

This role involves technical work, physical activity, and work in varied environments including underground and outdoor settings.

Desired Skills and Experience

What is required

Experience is not required. The right attitude is essential.

  • A genuine interest in becoming a qualified tradesperson with a focus on a long-term career within the Electricity Distribution Industry
  • Reliable, honest, and team-focused approach
  • Great communication skills
  • Passion, Motivation and willingness to learn
  • A high level of physical fitness and enjoyment of outdoor work
  • Comfort working in varied environments (indoor, outdoor, underground)
  • NCEA Level 2 or equivalent experience
  • Full, clean Class 1 driver’s licence
