Job Description

About the Role

You will deliver design and engineering services across Electra’s electricity network, supporting both network‑initiated and customer‑driven projects. The role focuses on producing safe, compliant, and practical designs from front‑end engineering through to construction support.

Working closely with project managers, field teams, customers, and external stakeholders, you will manage design delivery and provide technical support to ensure projects are delivered to specification and regulatory requirements.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Designing and engineering overhead and underground electrical distribution networks[KH1]  and reviewing external designs.
  • Preparing and issuing high‑quality design documentation and construction work packs
  • Providing technical engineering support to the network, customers and other internal business units.
  • Ensuring designs meet safety, network standards and national legislation requirements
  • Creation, development and quality assurance of standards

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in electrical engineering or electricity supply, or a trade qualification as a Line mechanic, or similar
  • Proven experience in electricity distribution sector or other relevant industry
  • Distribution design, including overhead, underground and or zone substation systems
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, design practices, and construction requirements, or the ability to understand construction processes and incorporate into design.
  • Proficiency in GIS, CAD, and design tools such as AutoCAD
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Experience with Catan, COLDNet, or similar systems would be advantageous, along with project engineering or project management exposure.
