About the Role
This is a hands-on technical role working across substations and the network, with a clear focus on secondary systems and protection relays. You will be working for the network owner, and therefore, your role will be stable, safe, secure and dependable!
You’ll be responsible for testing, commissioning, fault finding, and maintaining equipment that protects the network, not just installing it. This is about doing the job properly and knowing why it matters.
What you will be doing
- Working across secondary systems within substations and network environments
- Performing testing on instrument transformers, HV cables, and protection circuits
- Supporting installation and maintenance of switchgear, transformers, and control systems
- Fault finding across protection schemes and network equipment
- Supporting planned shutdowns, maintenance programmes, and project delivery
- Ensuring all work meets protection standards, compliance, and safety requirements
- Maintaining accurate technical records, test results, and documentation

Skills and Experience
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar role with strong hands-on experience with protection systems and relays
- Solid fault-finding capability, you can work things out on the go
- Relevant electrical qualification (Level 5 or equivalent)
- Safety-first mindset, takes ownership, works to a standard
- Full NZ Driver’s License without restrictions
